Below are instructions for how to caulk your tub and get professional results with little effort.
The main point is to use the tape as overflow control.
Items needed - Roll of tape, Tube of caulking that says 'paintable' on it, and a damp towel.
The inside and outside should be caulked -On the inside, you will caulk around the entire top deck of the tub where it meets the walls -On the outside you will caulk along the floor, and up from the floor to the top deck of the tub at each end of the tub.
Tips - -Do one section at a time. This will help avoid having the caulking dry before you're done.
- Use a damp terry cloth or similar towel to wipe your finger on when performing step 4. A damp finger helps smooth the caulking nicely as well.
-Make your gap with the two pieces of tape as small as possible. You want just enough caulking to prevent water intrusion in the area. When it's time to replace, do not take old caulking out. This could cause problems with the finish. Instead, clean the caulking well and lay a new bead right over the top.

Step 1- Apply one piece of tape on the tub, leaving just enough room for the caulking on the tub
Step 2- Apply one piece of tape on the wall, leaving just enough room for the caulking on the wall
Step 3- Apply your caulk in the corner where the tub meets the wall.
Step 4- Use your finger to apply pressure to the corner, and drag it along the caulking line. The goal here is to press the caulk into the corner for a good seal, and also to remove the excess caulking you applied in step 3.
Step 5 - Remove Tape and enjoy your perfect caulking line
